VINCI Construction acquires Spanish company Marsein, a specialist in nuclear services and maintenance
- A long-standing player in Spain’s nuclear sector
- 280 employees and €32 million in revenue in 2024
- The move will strengthen VINCI Construction specialist subsidiary Nuvia’s international operation
Nuvia, VINCI Construction’s subsidiary specialised in projects, engineering and services for the nuclear sector, has finalised the acquisition of Marsein, one of Spain’s leading nuclear service providers with operations encompassing mechanical maintenance, welding, decommissioning and waste management.
Marsein has played an active part in developing Spain’s nuclear capabilities since its inception 40 years ago, and currently provides maintenance services at various facilities. It was also involved in the country’s first nuclear reactor decommissioning operations (Vandellós I, José Cabrera-Zorita, and Santa María de Garoña). Its 280 employees across the country generated €32 million in revenue in 2024.
This acquisition has enabled Nuvia, which already operated in 16 countries, to move into Spain. It will enable Marsein to expand its maintenance and decommissioning capabilities by including Nuvia’s technological expertise and resources in its services.
VINCI Construction brings together a wide array of expertise in the nuclear sector including civil engineering, building construction, site development, nuclear facility maintenance and decommissioning, and design and supply of radiation protection and detection instruments. Its know-how and track record with very large-scale projects (most recently ITER in Cadarache, as well as the Chernobyl confinement and expansion of Orano’s Georges Besse 2 uranium enrichment plant at Tricastin), together with its locally based specialist companies (Nuvia, Freyssinet) and its proximity networks, are all valuable assets for VINCI Construction in this market.
