Construction of section 1.4 of the Stuttgart 21 high-speed line. Its aim was to relieve congestion at the Stuttgart railway junction and modernise it. This junction continues on with the new line running from Wendlingen to Ulm. Overall, the Stuttgart 21 project combines a new central underground station – a true hub for mobility – and 4 other train stations. Its route includes 120 km of new high-speed track (reference speed of 250 kmph) connecting the Stuttgart airport with Ulm.

This construction site was an initial phase prefiguring the Main line for Europe project which will link Paris to Budapest.

B247 Via Mühlausen Thüringen

Germany

2 million m³
of earthworks
13
standard engineering structures (underpass)
10
water collecting basins & 59 km of drainage

Germany’s first federal road awarded to a private operator under a PPP, B247 will connect the cities of Mühlhausen and Bad Langensalza in the Land of Thuringia.

The new route will improve mobility in north-eastern Thuringia and facilitate access to the region’s highway system. It will also increase road safety and improve the quality of life for the local residents by reducing traffic on the existing road through several settlements.

The contract includes financing, design, construction and operation of this road over 30 years.

The works will last approximately 4 years.

Abdelmoumen pumped storage hydroelectric plant

Abdelmoumen pumped storage hydroelectric plant

Morocco

1.3 million m³
reservoir capacity
 6 million m³
of earthworks
82,000 m³
of concrete

The pumped storage hydroelectric plant in Abdelmoumen, located 70 km from Agadir, ties in with the plan to develop and integrate renewable energies in Morocco. The plant works like a battery:
-When there is a surplus of wind or solar energy, it operates in pumping mode at 72 m3/sec, bringing water from the downstream basin to the upper basin.
-When there is a need, it operates in turbining mode, releasing the water from the upper basin into the lower basin (where the water will be stored later) and producing electricity.

The civil works were preceded by earthworks for the two reservoirs (also carried out by our teams), the creation of 14 km of access roads, the excavation for the powerhouse embedded in the slope, and the installation of the 3 km waterway, 1 km of which is underground.

Springbank off-stream reservoir

Canada

2021-2024

Springbank off-stream reservoir

Canada

5 million m³
of earthworks
4.3 km
long diversion channel
29 m high x 3.8 km wide
earthen dam dimensions

Located 15 km west of Calgary, this infrastructure will divert water from the Elbow River when water level rises to extreme levels and store it temporarily in an impounding reservoir. When full, this reservoir basin will hold over 70 million m3 of water, or the equivalent of more than 30,000 Olympic-size swimming pools.

The project includes a series of massive hydraulic structures and two overpass bridges above the diversion channel totaling approximately 40,000 cubic meters of reinforced concrete.
The project will protect the communities and surrounding areas from climatic events by diverting the flows of the Elbow River into a reservoir during extreme flooding events.

Bogotá-Girardot Expressway

Colombia

4 million m³
excavated material
38
engineering structures
4 million m³
road excavation

The project consists of the construction of a 65 km-long third lane on the existing motorway, and the construction of three bi-directional tunnels with a total length of 2 km, in order to upgrade and widen the infrastructure on which more than 15 million vehicles travel each year. The contract also includes the operation of the 141 km of this motorway between Bogotá and Girardot, in the Cundinamarca and Tolima regions.

This expressway is of vital importance to the economy and life of the surrounding areas. It is the busiest road in the  country, stretching from the Pacific coast to the centre of the capital, Bogotá. Built some 50 years ago, it has been under concession since 2005.
