VINCI Construction to carry out works on the north-eastern Metz bypass
- Upgrading the A4 peri-urban motorway north of Metz into a three-lane dual carriageway
- 24 months of works
- A €46 million project
A consortium of VINCI Construction companies – VINCI Construction Terrassement (lead), Weiler, Entreprise Jean Lefebvre Lorraine and Signature Lorraine – has been selected by Sanef, the company that holds the concession for the A4 motorway, to widen the section bypassing Metz to the north-east, between the A4/A31 junction (at Croix de Hauconcourt) and A4/A315 junction (at Mey).
The A4, which connects Paris and Strasbourg, becomes a peri-urban motorway near Metz. This toll-free section handles long-distance north–south traffic as well as local traffic. Widening it by building a third lane in each direction will improve safety and ease flows on this stretch, which was built in 1975 and is used by more than 50,000 vehicles a day.
The widening works on this 8.5 km section will begin in April 2021, last 24 months and amount to €46 million. They include building two interchanges, lengthening one engineering structure and modifying the architecture of two others, creating a wildlife crossing in a hydraulic structure, and building retention ponds.
