Bridges and overpasses

Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, Istanbul, Turkey

The Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge now enables traffic to bypass Istanbul and cross the Bosphorus to the north of the city. The bridge relieves congestion in the city and on the two suspension bridges farther south

North of Istanbul, the hybrid (cable-stayed and suspension) Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge has set a new world record with its 2,164-metre total length, 322-metre high towers and a 1,408-metre span. It carries eight motorway lanes (four on each side) and two railway tracks between Europe and Asia. Freyssinet engineered, designed, supplied and installed the cables and dampers for the bridge and Sixense is responsible for real-time monitoring.
