Upgrading existing transport systems and ambitious programmes such as the London Plan and the Grand Paris plan are becoming a major urban development focus. Thanks to its know-how, VINCI Construction is in a strong position to capitalise on promising growth prospects in the metro line construction and renovation market.

VINCI Construction is developing recognised expertise in the construction of metro lines, from civil engineering to electromechanical equipment, backed by some prestigious international successes.

In Asia, Bachy Soletanche has picked up a string of major contracts, particularly in Singapore and Hong Kong. VINCI Construction Grands Projets has joined forces with Bachy Soletanche to bid for Contract No. C1109 on the new Shatin to Central Link (SCL) line, a project that includes construction of a tunnel and two underground stations. Other opportunities may materialise for Bachy Soletanche in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Singapore and Jakarta, Indonesia. As Alistair Sim, director of the Bachy Soletanche subsidiary in Singapore, comments: "There are plenty of projects in the offing. Building metro systems has become a major activity."
In Vietnam, VINCI Construction Grands Projets and Bachy Soletanche are awaiting pre-qualification to built the Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City metros.

Many projects are also under way in the Middle East, notably in Qatar, with construction works for the LRT (light rail transit) project for the new city of Lusail in Qatar are in full swing, carried out by QDVC, the Qatar subsidiary of Qatari Diar (51%) and VINCI Construction Grands Projets (49%)

In France, VINCI Construction entities are involved in several major metro and suburban rail renovation and extension projects. 

The biggest contract, won by VINCI Construction Grands Projets in a consortium with Bachy Soletanche Ltd, covers construction of tunnels for the Liverpool Street and Whitechapel underground stations in the heart of London. The value of the contract is €275 million.

Phases 1 and 2 (under way) of metro Line 3: €565 million 

Extension of metro Line 12 under way: €170 million

Extension of metro Line 12 under way: €108.5 million

- Enlargement of the Tottenham Court Road Station and Victoria Station: € 641 million.
