"On the strength of its widely respected engineering expertise, VINCI Construction has achieved a leading position as a bridge builder delivering the full range of techniques, from new construction to repairs, in France and around the world.

The art of bridge building forms an integral part of VINCI Construction’s history. The Group has built a number of high-profile structures that demonstrate the scope of its technical capabilities and ability to innovate. Notable projects include the Normandy Bridge in France; the Vasco da Gama Bridge over the Tagus estuary in Portugal; and the Charilaos-Trikoupis (Rion-Antirion) cable-stayed bridge linking the Peloponnese with mainland Greece.

Every year, VINCI Construction builds a large number of bridges around the world. In 2012, notable projects included the start of work on the South Europe Atlantic Tours-Bordeaux high-speed line, construction of the bridge over the Saint Etienne River on Reunion Island, handover of the Russky bridge in Vladivostok, and handover of the Jacques Chaban-Delmas lift bridge in Bordeaux. Contracts were also signed for major projects in Panama and the United States.

The Group offers acknowledged expertise in cable-stayed bridges with the Soletanche Freyssinet Group.

To build this type of structure, Freyssinet contributes its experience and expertise in construction and repair (stay cables, prestressing, seismic dampers, cathodic protection, bearings, pavement joints, etc.), Soletanche Bachy and Menard provide ground improvement and foundations and Terre Armée builds retaining structures for abutments and approach spans.

“A well-executed project is first and foremost a project that is well designed, and our in-house design office gives us an edge.”

Philippe Moine, Director of Design and Structural Engineering, VINCI Construction Grands Projets

""Many contracting authorities are focusing on extending the lifespan of existing structures.” Erik Mellier, Technical Director, Freyssinet

Key figures :

1,104 metres: New world record for a cable-stayed span, set by Freyssinet in 2012.

Over 100 years: lifespan of suspensionbridge cables usingFreyssinet’s Cohestrandsystem.

€280 million: value of the contract won by VINCI Construction Grands Projets at the end of 2012 to build the Atlantic Bridge in Panama."
